“Charlie’s Autism: Diet” is the personal story of a journey made by me and my autistic son Charlie. It’s the story of how a change in what he ate, appeared to change the boy himself.
Seven years ago, when Charlie was aged three and not long diagnosed as autistic, I decided to have a go at a gluten and dairy-free diet to see if it might help him. I am claiming no miracles – I will always have an autistic son – but our family are witnesses to improvements in his general health.
“Charlie’s Autism: Diet” contains the full story of how we, step-by-step, researched, planned and started the diet.
You will also get:
• a suggested weekly menu;
• a suggested weekly shopping list;
• more than 30 valuable web addresses of companies and organisations which can provide you with information, advice and tests on dietary issues. They will also help you source suitable food products and check ingredients.
Before becoming a mum, I worked in journalism and PR. I have also worked for Scottish Autism and am currently employed as a Pupil Support Assistant in our local secondary school helping children with, among other things, ASD. I have been on various courses dealing with managing autistic behaviour and am presently studying the Autism Spectrum in the 21st Century. I am enrolled in my local authority’s Outreach Support Programme to help other parents and carers and regularly asked to talk about my experience to groups and at school in-service days.
Charlie's Autism contact details are available at the end of the book and I'm happy to be e-mailed about any aspect of the diet you think I may be able to help you with.
But please remember, I am not a doctor or a health professional, just a mum who has ridden the autism rollercoaster for 10 years.
I hope my knowledge, experience and success will be helpful to you and your family.
