Starting To Live Gluten Free

The next few posts will look at Starting To Live Gluten Free and what it means.

What does it mean to have to live gluten free? What’s involved and what do you need to consider? As someone who has had to live gluten free now for some seven years, at the time of writing, I know all too well what is involved. If you have had to make this decision or have chosen to do so then hopefully this page will be helpful.

Many people who have to live gluten free have not had much choice in terms of adopting this lifestyle usually because of a health condition. This kind of lifestyle and strict diet is common amongst those who have been diagnosed with celiac disease, a condition which makes you intolerant to anything containing gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. It can also be found in products such as medicines, vitamins, and lip balms and so many others!

If you are one of the ones who have decided to start living gluten free, whether by choice or necessity, there are many things you need to keep in mind when choosing gluten free foods.

First and foremost you absolutely need to stay away from anything remotely containing wheat, rye, or barley. This does include wheat breads and certain cereals. Consuming such foods can further lead to the damage of the small intestines, a condition associated with celiac disease.
